Tonight we ordered another new dish that we hadn't had before it's called Sambal Seafood. Delicious! We will order this one again.

This restaurant is THE only one out of the entire east bay region that made it to the SF Chronicle Top restaurant list recently. Worth checking out if you haven't been here before. Fantastic authentic Malaysian food. Been one of my go to restaurant all these years when I crave for Ying Yong Huat Dan Ho or Hokkien mee noodles. They have one of the best Ying yong with the crispy noodle and gravy over it which you need to try. Exactly how it's done in Malaysia. I also love their main entrees, along with other appetizers such as roti canai (prata) and gado gado. Fast service and very friendly owner who takes time to introduce dishes to diners new to the southeast Asian cuisine.

A late lunch with bestie after our shopping around this area. We only had 30 minutes left before this place is closed for lunchtime. We ordered food to share: Singapore behoon, balacan kangkung, and a bowl of steamed rice. The foods were surprisingly good! The service was good too. The place has a casual vibe. We'll be back

Great Malaysian food with an extensive menu and generous portions. We started with the gado-gado salad and bak kut teh soup. The gado-gado had cucumber, bean sprouts, jicama, deep-fried tempeh, and egg, all covered with a peanut sauce. The vegetables are lightly blanched, which suits me quite well as I'm not a fan of raw bean sprouts. Although I've had tempeh before as a vegetarian protein option in Western salads/bowls, I've never tried deep-fried tempeh, which has a satisfying crunch and goes really well with the peanut sauce. The bak kut teh had a strong medicinal aroma of Chinese herbs, slightly sweet and savory, with a mix of lean and fatty pork as well as tofu sheets. We then moved on to the mains: ying yang noodle and curry seafood claypot. The ying yang noodle was an exquisite mixture of textures: crispy vermicelli, soft ho fun, and a thick egg soup on top. It was a bit oily but the choy sum provided a nice balance. The seafood curry came in a clay pot to keep it warm and had lots of different ingredients: shrimp, squid, fish fillet, eggplant, and string beans. We ordered a lot for two people as we wanted to try a wide variety of food, and we ended up taking much of the two mains home. The curry reheated very well after adding more eggplant, fish cakes, and tofu, though the seafood shriveled up a bit. The ying yang noodle did not survive as well and took on a gloopy consistency; in retrospect, we should have finished it at the restaurant and perhaps saved the bak kut teh for home. At the end we chatted with the owner. He is Malaysian Chinese and married to a Burmese Chinese woman, which is why the restaurant also serves Burmese dishes. We'll be back to try those next time!

Food was good and fresh, but not as tasty as Straits on Santana Row. Would definitely go again when in the area, just not a destination. Fried rice a bit bland so I bought extra curry for my murtabak and poured it on the rice. Service was fast! Didn't expect it to be this quick during prime dinner hours.

Been here a couple times. All noodles and soups are stand out. Curries are good too, even the seafood ones and I typically don't love seafood curry. Noodles have good heat, soups and curries and rich and flavorful. Noodles have good bite and some dishes come with good lemon and chili sauces. Can be a bit salty but good management, fast service and food.

I visited Mingala with a group of friends, and we got to sample a wide variety of dishes from their menu. We tried the roti pratha with curry sauce, hokkien mee, rendang, belachan kangkung, salt & pepper fish fillets, café baby short ribs, and their coconut rice. Among everything we ordered, the café baby short ribs and the salt & pepper fish fillets stood out as clear favorites. The short ribs were incredible--the marinade, made with ground coffee, added a subtle bitterness that perfectly balanced the sweetness of the glaze. It's a unique flavor combination, and I can't think of another spot in the Bay offering anything quite like it. The salt & pepper fish fillets were also outstanding. While this dish isn't hard to find in the Bay Area, Mingala's version is one of the best I've had. The batter was light, thin, and perfectly crispy, with just the right amount of seasoning. It was a crowd favorite at our table--despite being one of the last dishes to arrive, it was the first to be polished off. The only (minor) criticism I had on the food was that the curries felt like they could've been more intense in their flavors. For example, I thought the beef rendang could have been reduced a bit more so the coconut flavors were more prominent. The dish itself was otherwise well made -- the beef was fall-apart tender. If you're craving traditional Malaysian and Burmese cuisine, Mingala is the place to go. The food is excellent, and I'd gladly come back to try more of their menu.

+ Affordable Lunch Specials + Super fast service + Ample seating and parking - Taste is just average Yeah I would recommend Mingala for lunch 100%. If you're someone like me who wants a quick lunch to fit into your lunch break, Mingala's got you covered! The service is lightning quick, and the lunch specials are good value to boot! For about $15, not only do you get an entree, but you also get a free iced tea! That's value! Truth be told, the taste of the food is just OK. I've come here twice and had the green curry as well as the mee goreng, and both tasted about par for the course, something you can get at any Thai or SEA restaurant. Nevertheless, for the nice service, excellent ambiance, and great value, I'd say Mingala is a remarkable option, especially for lunch. Enough talk.
